CHARDON, Ohio -- Three northeast Ohio students are being praised for their quick work to prevent their school bus from crashing when the driver became ill.
When the driver slumped over the wheel Thursday morning and failed to turn into the Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin campus, the teens grabbed the steering wheel and slammed on the brakes.
Geauga County Sheriff Dan McClelland says Mike Tutolo, Jeff Eippert and Tyler Pirc prevented a possible tragedy.
None of the roughly 50 students on the bus was injured. But the braking left skid marks on the road.
School officials say the bus driver's physical exams and licenses were current.
The school is located in Geauga County about 20 miles east of Cleveland.
