COLUMBUS, Ohio -- A reserve CPD officer was involved in a Friday night crash that sent seven people to the hospital, including five children.
Franklin County sheriff’s deputies were called to Norton Road, a quarter of a mile south of Johnson Road, on a head-on collision.
NBC 4 reported with the FAST FACTS.
The crash happened Friday evening a little after 7 p.m.
Reports said 43-year-old Christopher Belmonte went left of center and crashed into a vehicle driven by Dennis Wilburn. There were five children in the Wilburn's vehicle.
CPD confirmed Monday that Belmonte is a reserve officer for the division.
One child died as a result of injuries sustained in the crash. The rest of the children were in stable condition at Nationwide Children's Hospital Saturday night.
Deputies said they believe alcohol and weather were factors in the crash.
There are no charges or citations so far. The accident report will not be done Monday, according to the deputy assigned to this case. He told NBC 4 they have blood samples from both drivers in hopes of getting a BAC and also subpoenaed other hospital tests. They expected those results back in the next few weeks.
Names of the children involved in the accident were not being released currently.
