COLUMBUS, Ohio -- A Columbus police officer was shot late Saturday, and a suspect was killed.

An officer was shot in the area of Melva Avenue and East Weber Road on the city's North Side.
Officers responded to the area of Weber Road and McGuffey Road at about 9:20 p.m. on a report of shots fired at individuals near a local store.
Two officers were attempting to question three individuals when at least one suspect pulled a gun and shot one of the officers. Both officers returned fire and struck the suspect who died at the scene, according to police reports.
The 34-year-old officer was shot in the face and was transported to OSU Medical Center. He was listed in serious but stable condition. NBC 4 cannot confirm his identity currently.
A second police officer reportedly was injured.
Responding officers were advised by a witness that the remaining suspects ran into a house on Weber Road.
SWAT responded, and three adults and four juveniles were taken into custody for questioning.
Investigators interviewed the occupants of the house and determined the individuals were not connected to the shooting.
Weber Road was closed east of McGuffey Road for a time.
