COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Loved ones left in the care of others is a tough and emotional choice for anyone who's ever searched for a nursing home.
Now, there is new information that can help make the decision easier.
Last week, NBC 4's Mikaela Hunt reported on a federal ratings system for nursing homes. Many people who work in the industry were upset, saying the federal rankings were over-simplified.
At the time, the Ohio Department of Aging said that families should instead look to the state's guide, which they believe is more comprehensive.
It's called the long term care consumer guide, and Monday, results of it's new survey were released, scoring nursing homes throughout Ohio.
Much of the survey is based on comments from nursing home residents and their loved ones.
Visitors to the Web site begin by choosing a county and city, with an option of selecting a particular medical need the resident may have.
From there, users are given a list of facilities and their scores.
Users can also click on the facility's name, and find out the staffing numbers.
The average score for Ohio facilities was 86.6 out of 100 -- indicating an overall high satisfaction level.
