MARION, Ohio -- Still have a little holiday shopping? If not, you're likely going to head out for after-Christmas sales Friday, right?
One Central Ohio sheriff's office had a warning for female shoppers in particular.
NBC 4's Lauren Diedrich investigated.
Renee Farlee and her daughter Kendra were making a quick trip to the Marion-Waldo Road Kroger in Marion Tuesday night.
Farlee has a lot to get done for the holidays.
"Just trying to get last-minute stuff for tomorrow and for Thursday," Farlee said.
The Marion County sheriff's office warned women such as Farlee to be wary of what happened in the grocery's parking lot.
Deputies received a report last week of a man snatching a purse from an unsuspecting shopper.
Nearly the same crime happened days later at the nearby Jo-Ann Fabrics.
The sheriff's office said the suspect grabbed purses right out of the female victims' hands or even from the shopping cart itself."
Chief Deputy Al Hayden said it appeared there's more than one suspect: there's a driver and robber.
To lower your chances of becoming a victim, Hayden recommended holding your purse instead of leaving it in your cart, avoid putting lots of money in your wallet and try to shop in a well-lit area and with a group.
Those were suggestions Farlee said she's taking very seriously.
The sheriff's office only had a vague description of the man suspected of actually stealing the purses.
Anyone with information was asked to call 740-375-8477.
