COLUMBUS, Ohio -- If you’re fighting a nasty stomach virus, you’re not alone. This time of year, the virus will be passed around more than any other time. Nationwide Children’s Hospital has put out some basic advice to help fight the stomach bug.
If you’re throwing up, don’t eat solid food. Instead, sip fluids such as water, or chew on small bits of ice. Drink a rehydration solution like Pedialyte with carbohydrates and electrolytes to help fight dehydration. Once you stop throwing up, drink more clear foods and drinks like warm chicken broth, popsicles and jello.
When you start to feel better, try eating bland foods like toast, pretzels, crackers or bananas. When your symptoms last more than a couple of days or seem unusually severe, it is time to call in the doc. Or, if you have an infant with symptoms, call their pediatrician right away. Since stomach viruses are contagious, so wash your hands and scrub down the bathroom with a disinfectant.
