DAYTON, Ohio -- Police in Dayton say five children on their way to Christmas dinner with their great-grandmother collided with a car driven by a man who drove through a stop sign.
All five children were injured in the Thursday afternoon accident in a residential neighborhood. Authorities say nearby residents immediately went to work trying to free the two worst injured kids from the wreckage.
Seven-year-old Uneisha Taste and 8-year-old D'acelf Combs were thrown from their car and trapped beneath it. At least a dozen neighbors attempted unsuccessfully to lift the car from the children before emergency officials arrived. All five children were later sent to Children's Medical Center of Dayton for treatment.
Dayton Police Sgt. Michael Godsey says the driver of the other car fled on foot.
