CLINTONVILLE, Ohio-- A popular store owner was shot Saturday evening.
NBC 4 reported with the FAST FACTS Sunday.
Clintonville residents were trying to find out the condition of a man they see at Clintonville Market at 4440 Indianola Avenue.
The friendly owner was shot and wounded in an armed robbery attempt close to 5:15 p.m. Saturday.
Police said an armed suspect entered the store, displayed a handgun and demanded money from the register. The suspect shot the clerk and fled the scene without obtaining any money, according to a police report.
The 73-year-old clerk, and owner, was transported to Riverside Methodist Hospital in critical condition.
Witnesses told NBC 4 that a man with a blue bandana over his lower face warned the owner this was not a joke.
"He said, 'This is not a joke. This is for real. Hand me the money,' " a female customer said.
The clerk did not comply and was shot in the upper arm, and the bullet pierced his chest.
Police issued a description of the robber as a black male in his early 20s, who is 6 feet to 6 feet 2 inches tall and weighs 160 to 170 pounds.
His hair was pulled back in a small ponytail, and he wore his ears pierced.
Witnesses said another driver might have been behind the wheel of an '80s era Ford Escort with a broken out driver’s side window painted in a wild black-silver-grey camouflage paint style. Police said they were told the car had a loud muffler.
Anyone with information was asked to call the CPD robbery squad at 614-645-4545 or Crime Stoppers at 614-645-TIPS.
