EUCLID, Ohio -- Authorities in the Cleveland area say a man died in a fire when he apparently went back into his burning home to try to rescue his dog.
The fire early yesterday in Euclid killed 45-year-old Michael Kacperski and his golden retriever, Cody. The victim's niece says Kacperski died trying to rescue his pet.
A passerby saw smoke pouring from the house and called for help.
The fire's cause is under investigation. Officials say there was evidence of a cigarette and candle in the living room, where the fire began.
