COLUMBUS, Ohio -- A woman who was found guilty of murdering a young child was sentenced Tuesday.
NBC 4 reported with the FAST FACTS.
Brandy Ely will remain behind bars for 20 years to life for the 2006 murder of 2-year-old Brooklyn Branham, her boyfriend's daughter.
Ely, the mother of another 2-year-old child, was caring for both children.
Ely didn't call 911. Ely took Brooklyn to the hospital with skull fractures and told the police the toddler fell down the stairs.
Brooklyn was taken to Doctor's Hospital West where she died of a fractured skull, swelled brain and other bruises in October 2006.
The coroner ruled Brooklyn's death as a homicide.
Judge David E. Cain ruled on the case in a Franklin County courtroom Tuesday. Ely's sentence was broken into five years for child endangering and 15 to life for the murder. Five years for felonious assault was merged into the 15-to-life sentence.
According to investigators, Ely had a history of violence, including an arrest in July 2005 on aggravated menacing charges. Police said Ely shot a gun at her boyfriend.
Brooklyn's father supported Ely in court during 2007.
