[dateline] -- Football ticket prices are going up -- and sophomores at The Ohio State University could be required to live on campus.
OSU President E. Gordon Gee said he believes that requiring sophomores to live on campus would improve academics and the quality of life for second-year students, NBC 4's Paul Stelzer reported.
"It's a more intellectual, social, cultural experience for them to spend time on the campus," Gee said.
University Provost Joseph Alutto said that studies at other schools show that students who live on campus graduate quicker, have higher grades and are happier than students who live off campus.
"That would be a good idea then, if it helps improve their grades and such. Since I live on campus now, everything is close by. So it's pretty helpful," said student Greg Bricker.
But not everyone agrees with Bricker and Gee. Some students on the Oval said the decision on where to live should be made by individual students -- not the university.
"I found that dorms were very crowded and hectic and sometimes took me away from my studies," said Nina Hernandez, a student.
Requiring sophomores to live on campus is only a proposal -- one that OSU trustees will consider in the months ahead.
The Board of Trustees also voted to raise the football ticket prices for next season. The increase is $1 for students and a $2 hike for non-students. Tickets will be between $62 and $72 each.
