COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Derris Lewis was to face a judge Thursday but didn't show.
Derris, 18, was arrested yesterday in connection with the murder of his twin brother 17-year-old Dennis Lewis. Denis was shot and killed while trying to protect his mother during a home invasion.
Derris didn't appear in juvenile court. He waived his appearance, which means his next day in court -- in adult court -- is Friday, NBC 4's Mike Bowersock reported.
Derris' lawyer, family and friends had nothing to say as they were leaving court, but off camera they told NBC 4 they believe police arrested the wrong person.
Derris is currently being held in a juvenile detention center, Bowersock reported.
Dennis Lewis was a well-liked student at Columbus' East High School, who was a member of the band.
A scholarship fun was formed in Dennis Lewis' name and Derris Lewis was named as the first recipient. Now, everything has changed, Bowersock reported.
