[dateline] -- Police said a local man's attempt to take care of a neighborly dispute led up to his murder -- and this isn't the first time the home he was killed in has been the scene of a homicide.
Matthew Edblom left Wednesday morning to confront neighbors he said were allegedly involved in drugs, according to his wife, Angelina, NBC 4's Tom Brockman reported.
"He said, 'Babe, we have to stop this. This house needs to be closed down. We have to stop this.' And he went out the door and never came back," she said.
After walking to his neighbor's house on South 8th Street, Columbus police said, Edblom got into a fight with his own knife.
Angelina said Matthew always carried a knife, but she's convinced he never intended to hurt anyone.
No one answered the door at the house where Matthew was killed.
Police said that in December 2007, a man was killed in the sidewalk in front of the same home -- while being robbed. Investigators said the two incidents don't appear to be related.
"It's pretty frightening. I mean, I've got a family here: my son, my niece, and it's pretty frightening," an area resident said.
No charges have been filed against the two other men involved in the incident.
Police said it is unclear if Edblom was killed in self-defense. Charges are now left for the grand jury to decide.
