COLUMBUS, Ohio -- It could be said the Derris Lewis case most-talked about homicide case in Columbus in recent years.
But now some of that talk may stop, NBC 4's Mike Bowersock reported.
For the second day in a row, Derris Lewis failed to show for a court appearance in connection with his twin brother, Denis Lewis', murder. His public defender, Libby Hall, waived it.
"I am very concerned. This trial is going to be tried in the media," she said in court today. "I've already seen some incorrect facts."
Hall is trying to gain more control over what is said, Bowersock reported.
"I request that the court order a gag order on both the prosecution and defense in this case," Hall said, "to not, uh, leak evidence or information to the media."
Franklin County Prosecutor Ron O'Brien said he would go along with it, but the judge said she needs more time to make a decision, Bowersock said.
Derris did not fire the gun that killed his twin brother, who was trying to defend their mother, a prosecutor said.
"We're charging him as an accessory, not alleging that he had the gun in his hand," O'Brien said Thursday.
Derris remains in custody, and the next hearing is March 12.
