[dateline] -- A food market on the near-south side of Columbus was the scene of a crime. Someone got away with stealing items from the store, along with cash. Now, police are counting on the public to help crack the case.
Shortly after midnight on Nov. 18, a man was recorded by store security video inside the Bushman's Food Market in the 1000 block of Parsons Avenue, NBC 4's Mike Jackson reported.
Once inside the store, the suspect went behind the counter and stole cash from one of the two registers. The man then removed cell phones that were on display behind the county before leaving the store.
"He didn't realize there was a second camera and so when he was beginning to commit the theft, he kept his face exposed and once he realized he was on camera, he attempted to cover his head and his face with an Ohio State jacket. But it was far too late. He had already exposed his face and facial features to a second camera that was actually recording," said Detective Gerald Milner.
Investigators said they believe the thief was between 15 and 18 years old with a slim build. He is about 5 feet 7 inches tall, with a short haircut.
Central Ohio Crime Stoppers is offering a cash reward for information leading to the arrest or indictment of the suspect.
Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 614-645-TIPS or text a message to 72008.
All callers can remain anonymous.
