[dateline] -- Police called together a rare evening media briefing to release the photo of a convicted sex offender who is suspected in connection with a teenager's rape.
According to Columbus police, the man convinced the family of a 14-year-old girl that he was an undercover police officer and would pick her up and bring her home, NBC 4 reported.
Instead, detectives said, Charles W. Williams took the girl to Columbus Motor Lodge on East Main Street and raped her.
Williams has been charged with one count each of kidnapping and rape. He is described as a black man, 5 feet 7 inches tall, weighing 170 pounds with a medium build. He is bald with brown eyes.
The victim said Williams was driving a red Ford Expedition with gray interior and an Ohio license plate.
