PORTSMOUTH, Ohio -- A man who authorities say used a hunting rifle to shoot and kill a teenager who stole a bale of straw in southern Ohio has been indicted.
Police say 17-year-old Nathaniel Kennedy, of Chillicothe, was fatally shot on Oct. 14 as he was driving with a friend away from a property that's used by a shooting club for target practice.
Authorities say the two teenagers took the straw bale, worth less than $5, from the property and put it in the back of their pickup truck.

Thirty-five-year-old Eric Whisman of Blue Creek told authorities he was the property's caretaker and was only trying to scare the teens by shooting at them.
A Scioto County grand jury indicted Whisman on Thursday on charges that include two counts of murder.
