[dateline] -- Sources say that a bloody palm print linked Derris Lewis to the crime scene where his twin brother was killed.
Dennis Lewis, 17, was shot and killed on Jan. 18, while trying to protect his mother during a home invasion at the family's residence on Loretta Avenue.
Police said that during the home invasion, the masked intruders woke the family and began making demands. After one of the men threatened his mother, Lewis struggled with one of the intruders. During the struggle, Lewis was shot. He died as a result of his injuries.
The victim's twin brother, Derris, was arrested on Feb. 13 and charged with two counts of kidnapping, one count of aggravated murder and two counts of aggravated robbery.
Previously, police said Derris Lewis did not confess, but that physical evidence linked him to the crime.
According to the source, who is close to the investigation, physical evidence included a bloody palm print that was found at the scene of the crime.
The source indicated that Dennis was beaten with a wooden bar stool the night he died, and that Derris' bloody palm print was found on a wall where the struggle occurred.
Although the twins would have identical DNA, their fingerprints and palm prints would be slightly different. However, it was confirmed that the palm print belonged to Derris, the source said.
