Attackers Punch, Rob Campus Pedestrians

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Columbus Police are keeping an eye on one part of town after four people were attacked over a 24-hour period.

Suspects are preying on pedestrians, using violent methods to get victim's money, NBC 4’s Tacoma Newsome reported. And police said these crimes are happening in the one specific area.

Ask anyone living near OSU and they'll probably tell you the same thing: They feel safe for being on a big campus.

But there were several violent attacks on and near High Street Monday and Tuesday, Newsome reported, and at least two of the incidents were exactly the same: Five men punched and robbed sidewalk pedestrians.

Police said the other two, while similar, likely are not related.

Since High Street is a walker-friendly area, police ask residents to take extra precautions when walking through the area.

Police continue to investigate the incidents but offer these important safety tips: walk in groups, be aware of your surroundings and report suspicious activity.
