WESTERVILLE, Ohio -- It started as a typical traffic stop for a Westerville Police officer Tuesday night, but as the officer wrote mayor’s court summons for a driver and passenger, the typical stop took a fateful turn, NBC 4's Tacoma Newsome reported.
“In talking with the passenger, she gave us a tip,” said Westerville Police Sergeant Paul Scowden. “She said she knew where there was a wanted felon from here in Central Ohio.”
The lady said her boyfriend was Thomas Hastings, who was determined Monday to be one of Central Ohio’s most-wanted for identity fraud and forgery.
She led officers to the Dublin-Granville Road Intown Suites.
“We hit pay dirt,” Scowden said.
When Westerville Police arrived, the hotel manager thought they were Columbus Police because he had just called after seeing Hasting’s photo on the news, Newsome reported.
Hastings was arrested in the hotel room by Westerville Police. The police report said there were numerous IDs and credit cards scattered on the bed.
Authorities are processing all of the evidence in the hotel room, and Hastings is sitting in jail, Newsome reported.
