Accused Child Rapist Could Spend Life In Prison If Convicted

»  Comments | Post a Comment

NEWARK, Ohio -- A Newark man faces a number of charges today after allegedly raping young children, NBC 4’s Mike Bowersock reported.

The family of James M. Munyan did not want to speak with NBC 4 about the charges, but Bowersock said neighbors responded with shock — shock at the 10 reported cases against 37-year-old Munyan.

The victims are all children — both boys and girls — between ages 8 and 13, police said.

Word about what reportedly happened has spread through Munyan’s Newark neighborhood.

“That’s why all of the police have been coming up and down the street all of the time,” one neighbor said.

If convicted, Munyan could spend most of his life in prison, Bowersock reported.

“You’re looking at up to 10 counts of rape, multiple counts of gross sexual imposition,” Newark Detective Scott Snow said. “You’re looking at an extremely significant time in jail if he’s convicted on all charges.”

Munyan is expected in court Thursday afternoon to be officially arraigned, Bowersock reported.
