A Columbus group is stepping in to prevent neighborhoods being hit hard by foreclosures to keep the vacated houses in good shape and put them in good hands.
Columbus Housing Partners is displaying its efforts Monday to U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown (D) Ohio, who points to CHP's work as an example of what can be done with federal dollars. The Senator is trying to head of a predicted veto of a bill that would continue efforts of groups like CHP.
Senator Brown will join CHP 's Amy Klaben in touring a neighborhood on 21st Street in Columbus.
CHP has purchased and improved several homes that had gone into foreclosure.
"Many of these houses are sitting vacant. It's important that they be purchased and put back on the market, either for homeowners, or tenants," she told NBC 4's Paul Stelzer.
The mission of the housing group is to help provide affordable places to live for the city's low and moderate income population.
The group's efforts haven't gone unnoticed by one of the long-term residents of 21st Street.
"It just seems like they've done a lot in terms of improving the neighborhood. I'm very happy with what I'm seeing," observed neighbor Chris Powell.
Senator Brown will be touring the neighborhood Monday around 11 am as part of Foreclosure Prevention Week.
