COLUMBUS, Ohio -- A new survey shows Ohio State's Gordon Gee is the nation's highest paid president of a public university.
An annual report from the Chronicle of Higher Education shows Gee earned more than $1.3 million in the last academic year, including a recently announced $310,000 bonus.
Salaries of public university presidents nationwide climbed 7.6 percent last year.
Gee was one of 15 presidents who took home at least $700,000 in the 2007-2008 school year, up from eight in last year's survey. Nearly one-third now earn over $500,000.
The salary increases almost entirely reflect contracts signed before the economy took its sharp turn downward.
