COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Will The Ohio State University move from a quarter to a semester system?
The university has not made a formal decision on the move from quarters to semesters, but officials said the stars seem to be aligning towards that goal, NBC 4's Lauren Diedrich reported.
President Dr. Gordon Gee has publicly stated many times that he would like to move to the semester system.
In addition, other Ohio universities on the quarter system also were considering the move, which is part of the University System of Ohio's vision for a parallel system across Ohio.
In fact, the University of Cincinnati just gave the semester system an OK on Wednesday.
"I can't see why anyone would object to it. Every other college has the exact same thing," said Chris Moss, an OSU student.
"If you don't like a class, you have to be in it three weeks longer," said Krystal Woods, an OSU student.
The issue will need to go through a formal process, which will include OSU's Faculty Senate and Board of Trustees.
The soonest the system could happen at Ohio State would be fall of 2012, and a resolution on the topic is expected by the end of 2009's winter quarter.
