Candle Causes Duplex Fire

[dateline] -- Around 12:30 a.m. Monday morning, the Columbus Division of Fire was called out to the 400 block of Berkeley Road where one side of a duplex was on fire.


NBC 4's Tom Brockman reported on the FAST FACTS.


The home sustained heavy damage because of the fire, but the good new was the family of five was not home when the fire happened.


The neighboring family of 10 was home but not hurt.


The fire originated in the living room, according to Columbus fire. The cause of the fire was determined to be an unattended candle and was ruled accidental. Damage was estimated at $8,000.


The smoke detector performance remains undetermined.


The American Red Cross is currently helping both families with food, clothing and shelter.
