COLUMBUS, Ohio -- A Columbus City Schools board member who is running for higher office faces a charge of operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol.
Grandview Heights police stopped Carlton Weddington two months ago, but the incident was just coming to light Wednesday.
It was very early Sunday morning July 6 when officers stopped him on Dublin Road.
The police report said Weddington was clocked going 82 in a 45 mph zone.
When the officer noticed an odor of alcohol, Weddington told her he had been drinking for nearly five hours.
After Weddington lost his balance a few times during a series of field sobriety tests, the officer put him in handcuffs.
BOTH SIDES OF THE STORY: There was no answer when we stopped by Weddington's home three separate times during the afternoon and evening Wednesday.
On the phone, his attorney told us the OVI arrest and charge were "just allegations."
The police report showed Weddington refused a breathalyzer test before being taken to jail and that he was carrying campaign fliers in his car.
Weddington, who has been a visible member of the board, is running for a seat in the Ohio House of Representatives as a Democrat.
BOTH SIDES OF THE STORY: His republican opponent could not be reached for comment.
Weddington was taken to the GHPD before being booked into the county jail.
Weddington's OVI case remains in the Franklin County Municipal Court. His pre-trial was set for Tuesday, Sept. 23.
