CENTRAL OHIO -- Central Ohio school districts got back to work after being closed last week in the wake of the windstorm.
Districts, such as Columbus City Schools, Worthington City Schools and Upper Arlington City, missed several days.
The closings took away valuable prep time for the upcoming third-grade Ohio Achievement Tests in reading. But the districts do have options, and NBC 4's Candice Lee got answers for parents.
First, the Ohio Department of Education told Lee the test is given twice per year.
The first one, which is scheduled for the beginning of October, will be used more as an assessment for reading teachers.
The second test will be given in the spring, and the highest of the two scores will count.
Districts can request an extension of time to take the second spring test. ODE said typically the extension is for only a few days and students will take the test during the makeup days.
So far, just a few districts statewide have called to inquire about the extension, but no formal requests have been made.
As for the Ohio Graduation Test, which will be given to students in 11th and 12th grade, they will have another opportunity in the spring if they choose to skip the October test.
Lee will report more on testing Wednesday evening at NBC 4 and nbc4i.com.
