Police Believe Porn Involved Local Children

»  Comments | Post a Comment

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- It was a shocking revelation for families with children attending a local elementary school.

Upper Arlington police arrested Webb David Reider on child-pornography charges earlier this week. According to Upper Arlington police, Rieder, 32, was suspected of using the Internet to distribute porn.

NBC 4's Tacoma Newsome got answers Friday on Webb's involvement with Columbus City Schools and whether pornography was found on school computers.

Reider is an intervention specialist at Valley Forge Elementary School on Urban Drive, according to Columbus City Schools spokesperson Jeff Warner.

Reider works with the school's PEAK program. PEAK stands for Positive Efforts for Adjustment and Knowledge. It's part of an in-school suspension program.

Warner said that pornography was not found on any school computers, but the detective working the case said the department hasn't checked any of the school's computers.

Reider was highly regarded during his last six years with the school, Warner said. Warner talked to two principals about Reider's arrest and said they were "shocked." There weren't any allegations in Reider's personnel file, either.

CCS found out about Reider's arrest Tuesday, one day after Upper Arlington police served the search warrant on his Burgoyne Court home. Warner said Reider hasn't been in school since last Tuesday.

Reider appeared at a court hearing Friday. Prosecutors requested a high $1 million bond, but the judge imposed a $100,000 bond instead.

As part of his bond, Reider was ordered to stay away from minors and is not permitted to have Internet access.

Police said they believe some of the children involved are local. In fact, one file found on his computer was labeled "Hilliard Boy."

Reider previously was a youth soccer referee and coach and at one time was a camp counselor.

Police said there are 20 more files that could result in charges being filed so many more charges are pending.

Reider was in the midst of a suicide attempt when officers arrived at his home to serve the search warrant.

NBC 4's David Wayne talked to Valley Forge students and parents Thursday night.

"Well, I know he helps people around the classroom when they have problems with their work," one fourth-grader said.

"You never know who you can trust. I'm glad the found this and he is going to be removed," parent Kendra Young said.

When some parents heard the news, they went to the school to try to get answers.

Josh Meredith is the parent of a kindergartener and said school administrators didn't tell him about the arrest.

"I would like to go and talk to them myself and ask them why no memos, no nothing. And you have to find out on the outside," Meredith said.

Parent Amber Berry said if the district can't give parents advice on what's going on in the school, there's a problem.
