[dateline] -- Ohio State University President Gordon Gee has assembled a bigger and higher paid team of advisers than his predecessors.
By January, Gee will have 14 senior advisers who collectively earn at least $5.7 million a year.
Former president Karen Holbrook relied on nine executives who earned a little more than $2.8 million a year in base salaries.
Gee's latest hires are outgoing Ohio House Minority Leader Joyce Beatty and Caroline Whitacre, a medical school professor appointed to vice president for research.
Both will make more than $300,000 a year.
Gee says it is a lot of money but it's about making an investment in Ohio State and its future.
Gee, who earns $1 million a year, has a reputation for spending a lot of money as a way of raising even more dollars for the universities he has led.
