COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The Ohio State University is considering a big switch from quarters to semesters, but some students are speaking out by using the Internet.
On one of the first spring-like days at OSU, students were outside enjoying the weather. At the same time, in a meeting room on west campus, some of the school's biggest players were discussing the possibility of changing the school from quarters to semesters, NBC 4's Lauren Diedrich reported.
"I like quarters personally. They were a small deciding factor. It wasn't as large. It was part of the factor over some universities," said Robert Barga, a junior.
Barga is a member of the undergraduate student government and also the creator of a Facebook page that's generated a following.
The page is called OSU Students Against Semesters and has more than 3,700 members.
The page includes reasons to resist the switch and why it may be harmful to students.
"I think the first switch is going to put us on the same page as 90 percent of other schools in the U.S.," said Professor Timothy Gerber, of the semester conversion committee.
The academic and student affairs committee will decide if the issue will be passed to the school's board of trustees. Then, they must vote to make the final decision if the switch will move forward.
The earliest semesters would begin would be in the fall of 2012.
