COLUMBUS, Ohio -- A man used a baby to commit his crimes, according to a city prosecutor.
NBC 4's Lauren Diedrich reported with the FAST FACTS Thursday.
Derrick Buell, 27, remained in jail Thursday.
Buell was caught stealing iPod accessing at a Meijer on East Broad Street Wednesday night, Columbus City Prosecutor Bill Hedrick said.
The part that made the crime extra disturbing was that he used a baby, presumably his baby, to commit the crimes, Hedrick said.
"This individual is definitely not going to become father of the year," Hedrick said.
And Wednesday wasn't the first time.
Buell was in hot water about six months ago for a similar crime.
Buell allegedly used a diaper bag to steal hundreds of dollars worth of fishing and hunting equipment from a Meijer on Cleveland Avenue.
Buell has a long criminal history, according to Hedrick, who was working to keep Buell in jail for as long as possible.
"He's an individual who chooses to shoplift not only does he shoplift, but he uses two children for his cover," Hedrick said. "What kind of person are you? What kind of parent are you that you're taking your children with you when you steal?"
Buell faced 180 days in jail for each incident. He declined NBC 4's request for an interview.
