COLUMBUS, Ohio -- While the details of a possible deal are under wraps, Chase Bank confirmed Friday that it will add 130 jobs related to mortgage-servicing.
But the bank hopes to add many more positions and that's something the city, state and federal officials would welcome, NBC 4's Tanya Hutchins reported.
More than 14,000 Central Ohioans work for Chase Bank, making it one of the largest employers in the area.
A company representative said Friday that it's too early to tell exactly how many jobs could be added, but the bank is working with state and local officials.
The Ohio Department of Development offers incentives for companies that create new jobs. So does the City of Columbus.
Job leaders said Central Ohio is in better shape than other areas of the state -- mainly because the area doesn't rely on one industry over another.
Also, Central Ohio's 25 colleges and universities help -- but that doesn't mean more jobs aren't needed.
"We need to provide assistance to these dislocated workers, to these hard-working families that have been suffering for the last two years in this recession," said Hilda Solis, secretary of labor.
If Chase Bank does bring more jobs to Central Ohio, any announcement could be months away.
Besides the 13 million Americans out of work, nine million are now working part-time jobs.
The government is calling those workers the under-employed who are struggling financially because what they earn is often much less than what they need to survive.
