COLUMBUS, Ohio -- A major downtown intersection is closed after a two-alarm electrical fire.
The electrical fire broke out in the basement of the 12-story Atlas office building at 8 East Long Street in downtown Columbus at about 12:30 p.m., NBC 4 reported.
The fire began in an electrical panel in the basement, causing a lot of heavy black smoke.
The fire was contained at about 12:50 p.m.
Emergency crews said that 100 occupants were evacuated, one of whom was stuck in an elevator, but that no injuries were reported.
Because firefighters had to conduct a floor-by-floor search to make sure everyone was out, they called a second alarm for the additional personnel.
Long Street was closed at Front Street and northbound High Street was closed at Broad Street. Northbound High Street was reopened at Broad Street at about 2:15 p.m. Long Street remains closed at Front Street
