COLUMBUS, Ohio – On February 10, 2009 around 7:40 p.m., an armed suspected entered Smiths Deli and Lottery on Sullivant Avenue. The suspect demanded money, the employee complied, but after the robber got the cash, he began to threaten and point the gun in the face of 55-year old Prakash Bhai Patel. When the suspect was leaving the store, he turned and pointed the pistol and shot Patel in the chest. Patel was in critical condition, fighting for his life. The description of the suspect is very vague, simply an unidentified black male. Authorities believe someone in the community has information that can solve the case.
Crime Stoppers of Central Ohio has issued a $2,000 reward for any information that can lead to the arrest of this suspect. You can contact Crime Stoppers at (614) 645-TIPS or (614) 645-8477. The past month has been highly successful for the local Crime Stoppers Program. Tips to the organization have helped police make 10 arrests in the past 30 days from everything from bank robberies to a homicide.
