WEIRTON, W.Va. -- A recovery team is searching the Ohio River for a deckhand who fell off a barge while it was delivering coal to a power plant.
Authorities haven't released the victim's name, describing him only as a black male in his 20s. Hancock County Sheriff Mike White said the man fell into the water Monday afternoon.
The man was wearing a life jacket when he fell into the Ohio River, but White said witnesses saw it fall off when he hit the water.
The search Monday focused on 3,500-foot section of river between the W.H. Sammis Power Plant and the New Cumberland Lock and Dam.
It was halted for bad weather by early evening but was expected to resume Tuesday.
