TAMPA -- A 41-year-old Valrico man called 911 several times Sunday night to say he was drunk and needed a ride to detox, Tampa police say.
An operator said police would come to the man but that he should stop calling 911.
When the officer arrived on scene at 2610 N. 40th St., willing to give the man a ride to detox, the man opened a beer in the police cruiser's back seat, according to police.
Police charged James Ayers Jr. with misuse of the wireless 911 system. He also was ticketed for possession of an open alcohol container, police say.
Ayers remained in jail. His bail was set at $500.
