COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Several local businesses were under fire after inspectors allegedly found them in violation of several health codes.
NBC 4's Tom Brockman GOT ANSWERS on the allegations.
Wednesday's session marked CPH's second food hearing this week. There was one on Monday, too.
The businesses met before an independent hearing officer for alleged violations.
A January inspection at Alexander's Busy Bee Nursery, 275 Clarendon Ave., resulted in health-code violations, including the use of noncommercial-grade equipment, such as an oven and refrigerators, inspectors said could lead to food contamination.
Attorneys for the nursery said it has operated for almost 40 years without a single complaint and is in process of upgrading the facility.
Inspectors said they found violations at China Market, 59 W. Spruce St., during a February inspection.
Alleged violations included workers not washing hands as often as they should and not putting dates on cooked foods.
China Market representatives said they have fixed or are in the process of fixing these violations.
At Hawa Russia, 2680 E. Dublin-Granville Rd., inspectors said during a March inspection employees did not wash hands often enough and raw fish was stored over cooked food.
The three businesses were given the opportunity to plead their case to a third-party hearing officer at Columbus Public Health Wednesday.
The hearing officer will make recommendations to CPH on what steps should be taken and those recommendations could include suspending the restaurants’ licenses.
The board was scheduled to make final decisions in a few weeks.
