TOLEDO, Ohio -- An Ohio State Highway Patrol investigator says an inmate serving a life sentence for murder was being removed from his cell when he used a homemade knife to stab four prison guards.
Sgt. Tim Root said Tuesday that none of the guards was seriously injured. He says the inmate stabbed two of the guards in the head, another in the neck and one in the chest.
Root says three of the guards had opened a cell door to take the inmate to an isolation area when he attacked them Monday afternoon. Root says another guard rushed over to help and was also stabbed.
The investigator says the inmate was treated at the prison's hospital ward and then put in isolation. He says the inmate is serving a life sentence for murder and aggravated robbery.
