COLUMBUS, Ohio-- -- Franklin County authorities Saturday stopped an SUV that resembled a vehicle being sought in an alleged apartment burglary and subsequent shooting.
But the red SUV with some front-end damage was unrelated to an incident in southeast Columbus Friday.
Meanwhile, the woman wounded after she followed the suspect vehicle in an attempt to get its license number has been taken off the critical list.
Alicia Hoskins, 28, suffered injuries to her face when a bullet pierced her windshield while she was following an SUV a witness pinpointed as carrying three men who might have been involved in a burglary at the apartments Hoskins manages.
Upon hearing that tip, she got into her own car, located the red SUV and followed it from the apartment complex in an effort to get a good look at the license plate.
One of the three persons in the pursued vehicle allegedly leaned out a window and fired shots at Hoskins' vehicle.
One shot went through the windshield, injuring Hoskins and causing her to drive off the road.
A passerby found her walking away from her car but covered in blood. The passing driver took her to a nearby fire station on Gender Road.
Police said Hoskins was still upright and talking at that point, but her condition deteriorated and she was listed as critical within an hour of the shooting.
By Saturday at noon, her condition had stabilized and she was off the critical list.
Authorities continue to look for the vehicle and suspects seen at the apartment complex.
