COLUMBUS, Ohio -- An accident involving a tractor trailer and a resulting hazmat situation closed a U.S. route overnight.
NBC 4 reported with the FAST FACTS.
A semi overturned on the westbound ramp from Refugee Road to U.S. Route 33 at about 10:30 p.m. Thursday.
Columbus police and fire departments shutdown U.S. 33 at Interstate 270 on the city's Southeast Side.
Hazmats crews were called to the scene because the tractor trailer was leaking a corrosive substance of some sort into a nearby drainage ditch.
U.S. Route 33 was reopened to traffic earlier Friday morning, but the Refugee Road eastbound ramp to U.S. Route 33 northbound remained closed during rush hour.
The ramp was reopened close to 9:15 a.m. Friday.
The truck spilled about 500 gallons of anhydrous material or fertilizer and two types of hazardous materials at 10 to 20 gallons each of a mild corrosive and miscellaneous hazard material, according to CFD Battalion Chief David Whiting.
The company in charge of the cleanup was Pro-Terra.
