Vapor Cloud From Chemical Leak Dissipating

»  Comments | Post a Comment

DOVER, Ohio -- Fire officials say a vapor cloud from a large hydrochloric acid spill at an east-central Ohio plant is dissipating, and no injuries have been reported. Dover Fire Chief Brooks Ross says more than 27,000 gallons of the chemical leaked from a storage tank at Dover Chemical Corporation near Interstate 77 at about 12:55 a.m. Saturday. The leak was contained in a retention area on site, and spawned a large vapor cloud that lingered for more than four hours.

Ross and a Dover Chemical official say the cloud is limited to the site and dissipating. Police and fire officials describe the cloud as a minor irritant. Police say there were no evacuations and residents received a reverse 9-1-1 call telling them to keep doors and windows closed. Dover Chemical, located about 45 minutes south of Akron, makes chemical additives and is a subsidiary of New York-based ICC Industries Inc.
