WEIRTON, W.Va. -- Authorities believe a body found in the Ohio River is that of a deckhand who fell from a coal barge two weeks ago.
WTOV-TV reports that the body was discovered Monday night by a guard at the W.H. Sammis power plant in Stratton, Ohio.
Hancock County Sheriff Mike White told WTOV that the family of 26-year-old Michael Harvey has been notified. But White said a positive identification will be made by a medical examiner.
White fell into the river April 6 as the barge unloaded coal at the power plant. The Pittsburgh man's life jacket was found near the scene later.
Local authorities, volunteers and divers hired by White's employer, Campbell Transportation Co., had searched for him since the accident.
