COLUMBUS, Ohio -- A local unsolved heist could be connected to a burglary in another city, according to the FBI.

NBC 4 reported with the FAST FACTS.

The Columbus and Boston FBI offices released information Wednesday on a possible link between the local January Brinks, Inc, burglary and a June 2008 burglary in Attleboro, Mass.

Several individuals broke into Brinks, Inc., at 1362 Essex Ave., through the roof sometime between the hours of 7 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 17 and 9 a.m. Sunday, Jan, 18.

The suspects used some type of cutting torch, gained limited access into the vault and removed some cash. The suspects also were able to enter a coin room where a significant amount of Susan B. Anthony, Sacagawea and Presidential $1 coins, along with silver 50-cent pieces were taken.

Investigators continue to follow tips, but the case remains unsolved.

A team burglarized the E.A. Dion Jewelry Manufacturing Company, at 33 Franklin McKay Dr., Attleboro between June 7, 2008, and June 8, 2008, authorities said.

Access to the building was gained through a hole cut into the roof. Suspects stole precious metals, gems and jewelry in various stages of manufacture, authorities said.

Among the items stolen were New York Giants Super Bowl rings being produced for the team after its win over the New England Patriots in 2008.

The loss was estimated at $2.5 million.

An extensive joint investigation recently resulted in the recovery of 29 Super Bowl rings and the arrest of five suspects.

Investigation determined the methodology used to carry out both burglaries is remarkably similar, and investigators believe the two incidents could be related.

Brinks, Inc. has offered as much as a $50,000 reward for information leading to the identification and arrest of the individuals responsible for the Columbus burglary.

CPD and the FBI asked anyone with any information concerning either burglary to contact Central Ohio Crime Stoppers at 614-645-TIPS (8477).
