COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland has called on state agencies to stop contract work, limit the purchase of supplies and reevaluate travel for the remainder of the fiscal year.
Strickland signed an executive order Wednesday asking for more spending reductions in the current budget and for following two years.
The governor did not provide a specific target for cuts in the current fiscal year ending June 30. But he wants agencies to cut 30 percent of expenses coming from contract services and supplies in the next two years.
The governor has already ordered a total of $1.9 billion in cuts and other spending adjustments in the current fiscal year. Lawmakers are also confronted with the poor economy in trying to build the next two-year budget.
