CENTRAL OHIO -- School districts in Central Ohio have plans in place to monitor, track and take proactive measures to avoid the spread of any disease inside schools.
Officials with Columbus City and South-Western City schools have similar lines of defense in place.
First, school administrators will be in contact with local, state and national health departments to monitor any new information about swine flu.
Second, schools are practicing universal precautions to stop any spread of the disease, including disinfecting areas throughout school buildings.
Third, officials are tracking students who have a fever of 101.5 degrees or higher.
If there is an actual outbreak of swine flu, Columbus City Schools has a district response team in place.
"The bottom line is we have a plan in place. We're following it -- as it comes in," CCS spokesperson Kim Norris said.
"Our clinics are monitoring the number of students that come in with a fever, maybe exhibiting a type of symptom or any type of flu," South-Western City spokesperson Sandy Nekoloff said.
Additionally, the Centers for Disease Control guidelines include closing schools to reduce contact between people.
