COLUMBUS, Ohio -- With summer approaching, more people will take their dogs outside, but there could be changes to how you take your dog out for a walk in Columbus.
Riley is still a young pup and loves to play at Goodale Park with his owner, Chelsea Bradshaw.
"We are out here constantly, especially at night. That's when other dogs are out," Bradshaw said.
But it's playing with other dogs at the park without a leash that could end if a Columbus City Council member has anything to do with it.
"She's a very good, lovely dog. She likes people, likes to walk," Bradshaw said.
NBC 4 confirmed that Councilwoman Priscilla Tyson is revisiting the city's leash law, which has never been approved.
According to city prosecutors, the legislation would require dog owners to have their dog on a leash at all times unless they're at a designated dog park.
First-time offenders could a face a minor misdemeanor. Owners who don't clean up their dog's waste could also face up to a $150 fine.
One dog owner, Sergey Ganilov, said he likes the proposals.
"Even if your dog is good, other dogs can have aggression," Ganilov said.
The legislation could be presented to council in the upcoming weeks.
Both Cleveland and Cincinnati have similar legislation.
