COLUMBUS, Ohio -- If it's too good to be true, it probably is -- according to Detective Tom Clark with the Columbus Division of Police.
Marrita Whitlock and her boyfriend began looking to buy a 2003 Cadillac Escalade and found one on Craigslist -- supposedly belonging to Michael Hague.
The couple, from St. Louis, made plans to fly into Port Columbus in February to pick up the car with $7,000 cash in hand.
Police said Hague picked them up, wearing a suit and driving a Lexus. But the ride to their new purchase went terribly wrong.
"He had the gun on Stacey (and) he told Stacey to give him the money," Whitlock said.
They were left on Mayfair Boulevard with nothing but their cell phones to call 911.
Police eventually arrested Hague, along with Norman Fadis and Richard Jenkins. They are facing robbery related charges.
CPD says they're seeing this type of crime increase and are warning consumers to meet sellers in public places with witnesses during a purchase.
