GROVE CITY, Ohio -- Alisa Hamilton says her husband was elated when special election results came in on the Columbus income tax issue. But, the mood soon changed once the family realized Issue 2, the South-Western City Schools levy did not pass.
Now the Hamiltons are regrouping, trying to figure out what to do.
Alisa wants to move the family, perhaps to Upper Arlington or Teays Valley Schools. She plans to contact a realtor about putting her brand new Grove City home up for sale.
Alisa says she wants her three girls to have the best possible education, including extracurricular activities.
South-Western City Schools plans to end bussing for students within two miles of their schools, cut extracurricular activities and close two elementary schools.
Opponents of Issue 2 have criticized the district's use of funds, charging over spending and mismanagement, but the district spokesperson Sandy Nekoloff says SWCS has already made substantial cuts and is using school funding wisely.
The district has reduced spending by $22 million during the past three years and cut 330 positions.
The district is ranked 14 out of 16 districts in Franklin County when it comes to per pupil spending.
