West Virginia Amberview To Be Eliminated

»  Comments | Post a Comment

FAIRMONT, W.Va. -- A West Virginia program created to distribute digital pictures of missing children is being eliminated.

The West Virginia High Technology Consortium Foundation says funding for AmberView has been cut off.

Children who enrolled in AmberView had pictures taken each year at their schools. Parents also submitted photos that were stored in a State Police database.

Those pictures will now be destroyed.

Foundation President James Estep (EEE' step) said Friday the National Institute of Justice did not allocate money for the program. He says he might have been able to save AmberView if he'd had more notice.

Last school year, nearly 90 percent of West Virginia schools and 91,000 children participated in AmberView.
