COLUMBUS, Ohio -- A major intersection is closed on the city's northeast side after a fire engine rolled over Thursday afternoon.
The crash occurred on Westerville Road just south of state Route 161 in the area of Minerva Lake Road at about 3:45 p.m.
Offiicals told NBC 4's Ana Jackson that the engine was traveling northbound on Westerville Road while on a medic run with three firefighters on board.
A tow-truck driver traveling southbound on Westerville Road was behind a car that yielded to the fire truck. The tow truck attempted to avoid colliding with the car and traveled left of center. The fire engine attempted to avoid the tow truck, but the tow truck clipped the back end of the fire engine, causing it to crash onto its side.
The three firefighters were not injured, but the tow-truck driver and his wife were taken to Riverside Methodist Hospital in stable condition.
Westerville Road southbound was closed at S.R. 161.
The crash remains under investigation.
Columbus police said the tow-truck driver would be charged in the crash.
